I can forward you a few links concerning PP usage in the Library here if nobody fields this question.

Hello, hope everyone is getting ready for Christmas. I have always seen PP med used for certain treatments or tank/equipment sanatizing. Not that I need to use it for a problem now, I am curious as to its use and at what dosage do you use for a given situation. I have always steered clear it, because of hearing some peoples bad experiences with it. I am just curios of all the little fine details as to dosage to a given problem. Also ,where would I buy it if I should need it. (I hope not)Just like to have one more thing in my arsenal if a situation arises.

If you are going to use PP I would strongly recomend getting a gram scale. It is easy to blow a dose with PP with dire consequences to your fish. Long term baths in situ at 2ppm to 4ppm (max dose I personally use on discus or any fish) is the way I use it. It is a good treatment for many external parasites, some like certain flukes require repeated doses. But for cleaning up fish it is probably one of the best meds. For sterilising tanks it can be used at 20ppm and upwards if wanted. Used correctly it is verys safe and very effective.

Comfortably numb.
Where do you purchase Potassium Permanganate? I would like to sterilize my tanks and equipment with it, but it seem to be a bit difficult to find. I live in Philadelphia Pa.
Thanks,
For sterilization use a bit of bleach and then rise well

I dont have a scale for measure but color is a decent indicator for me (its not exact but I think I stay on the low side anyway). I purchased the crystals at sears in the water softener department. I little bit goes a LONG way. It is definately something that you need to be careful with if you have limited experience when using it for fish.
Check with John at Jehmco. They sell it as a product called oxy clear for around 16 US. They ship the same day if it is in stock. Light pink solution for 4 hrs seems to work best for me. Hydrogen peroxide is the antidote, and is stated as such on the bottle.

I don't see that product listed at JEHMCO

You can buy it at lowes for like 7 bucks. And a ton too. I just use the oxy clear due to the fact that it has a dosing chart and is packaged for fish. I dont see it on the Jehmco WS either. Its there though. If any one cares to know, and some may, It is my drug of choice. Kills pathogens and cleans up the water. Just dont over dose. PP will burn fins and gills. Light pink solution over the course of 4hrs. The trick is to add as you go to keep it light pink. If you go purple add hydrogen peroxide and start again the next day.
