Dave, I just use household bleach, around a 10% solution and wash it all down well. Only time I would do any different is if the tank had diseased fish in previously.
Looking for PP, tried local Sears where I got it before.
After about six different depts including plumping and water softners.
Last number they gave me took me to BB&T bank!!!!!
Where can I get it in a hurry. Looking to disinfect a tank by this weekend or should I just run some bleach thru it. If so how much, 55gal by the way. New fish arriving next Tues.
Thx Dave

Comfortably numb.
If all you want to do is clean a tank up then use the bleach and rinse well....
bleach it.

Thx guys, guess I was a little worried the bleach would eat at the silicone.

Just an FYI. Jungle Clear Water's only ingredient is Potassium Permanganate. Imagine that, on the shelves at WalMart, sold as a water clarifier for aquariums.
I wonder how many biofilters have been nuked by using that product.
The PPm dosage is so low that any decent bio-film would be fine.
Anyone having problems in Canada finding PP just email me....in the States check Pond RX

TheChemistryStore.com based out of South Carolina sells PP and ships it via UPS Ground. All you have to do is print the waiver from their site, sign it and fax it in after you place your order. I had mine in 3 days.
Check the link below. I bought one of those few months back from the same seller and the product works great and is priced very reasonably.

Collin,
Here's something that I posted a while back in DAAH.
I have tried every Sears in my area and they look at me like I'm nuts when I ask them if they carry PP. Even the water softening section where it's supposed to be. Finally yesterday I got one guy that gave me the number to the Sears Parts Dept. in my area. While they had me on and off hold for about 45 mins. trying to figure out how or where they could find this stuff, I looked it up on the internet, then gave them the internet address and details to find it. Once they had the part number, we were finally in business.
I'm posting this to hopefully save someone else all this trouble. If your local Sears employees look at you like you have marbles in your head when you go to the water softening dept and ask if they have Potassium Permanganate. Then they reach for the phone to call PETA when asked what you need the PP for and you say "to clean my fish and aquariums". Just do your best to try to squeeze the Sears Parts Ordering number out of them and give them a call. When you reach them, don't waste your breath telling them about fish and tanks...just lie and say you want it for water softening and here is the info:
Part # 3441599
Division # 42
Source # 625
And they will mail it to you. It cost $5.99 for 6oz. and just a few $$ for shipping. I'll give you exacts on shipping when I get the order in. If you still have problems with them finding what you are trying to order, send them to this website http://kenmorewater.com/website/prod...manganate.html
If you are fortunate to live in an area where your local Sears store (or any of the other "home" stores) carry PP...then lucky you!
Kathy

Thanks Kathy! You significantly shortened my search... I just ordered two containers from the Sears Parts phone line. They were listed at $6.99 each, and the total after shipping charges was ~$22.50. So shipping/handling was ~$8.
John
Cool! Glad to help out.
