Can anyone post a clear example of an ugly bulldog discus? I haven't hold of these. My least favorite discus are any that are stunted, deformed, hormone infused and called "super", "king", "viper" or white/ghost discus..

Knowing that some of the same spawn that looks normal may be sold and the gene goes along with them and keeps being passed on. Of all the deformed fish sold these days discus would be my least favorite. To take a beautiful discus and turn it into an odd ugly thing is not my up of tea.
I have produced bulldog discus from spawns of high quality parents. That's because the "bulldog" trait comes from a semi-dominant mutation which reduces the length of the spine. When one allele is present, you produce a tall discus - sometimes sold as "high back" or "high body". This mutation was used by most Asian breeders to produce more rounded fish. You can see the single allele condition in many of the tiger turqs available for sale. When two alleles are present, you get the full "bulldog" expression.

When I spawn some nice tall discus, 25% of the spawn will be bulldogs (they get culled in my tank). 50% of the spawns will be tall and the remaining 25% will be very ordinary. This is no different than the genetics underlying balloon type livebearers - mollies, platys, and balloon rams. I find the bulldog discus, balloon mollies, balloon rams, all to be ugly. But if you have Asian discus (like I do), that gene is in your aquarium.
At my age, everything is irritating.

Lawrence Soon of Lucky Tropicals was a huge promoter of the "bulldogs"and "standing eggs." I don't think many were well received here in the USA and Canada.

Now, there is one mutation that looks nicer than the bulldog and looks interesting and that's the Boomerang/Sharkskin or Angel fins.

I think the most diserable trait of discus is their symetrical shaped bodies [colors a close second]. Bulldog discus like the baloon mollies look deformed and terrible.

I could see how people don't like these, but I didn't include them as least desirable because I don't consider them discus. More like Frankendiscus!
