How many discus tanks vs other species?
I know abunch of us keep multiple tanks of aquatic critters. I was wondering what you all are keeping and how that compares to your discus tank or tanks?
Do you keep discus only tanks or mixed species tanks? Do you have non-discus tanks? And are you planning on adding any tanks of aquatic critters in tbe next few months?

One discus tank for me is all. Then several other tanks, mostly in some sort of breeding or growout configuration.
No additional tanks planned, buy I think I will rehome my tetras and some various other fish fairly soon as I'd rather have more growout space than a community tank that I am basically just feeding and maintaining vs "using" it.

I understand that sentiment perfectly Jacob. Do you have local fish stores that will buy livestock from hobbyists for cash or store credit? Its pretty slim pickings here. One store I would euthanize my fish before I brought them there. Most out here are petco and petsmart.

No discus for me at the moment. Life is simply too busy with teenage boys, work & church life. I have 2 tanks; a 500 gallon malawi predator, hap & peacock tank, and a 110gal mixed tropheus species display with a handful of grow outs from my big tank. I have a 15 gal hospital tank also which is currently empty

Danny are the Malawi, Haps and Peacocks much easier than discus to care for?

Re: How many discus tanks vs other species?
They are Al, in the sense that their tolerance for higher nitrates is much greater than discus as it relates to their health. Missed or smaller less frequent water changes really don’t potentiate sickness in Malawi cichlids like it does with discus. In my 500 gal tank I change about 150gal/wk in winter when the ground water is cold and 3-400 gal/wk during the summer.
My tropheus tank I change 75% weekly as trophs can be a little less nitrate resistant than Malawi cichlids and are prone to bloat so I like to keep my nitrates better controlled on that tank.
All fish do best in clean water but my life & schedule atm demands species that don’t require as much of me, or at least are more gracious in handling less than ideal conditions

Two discus tanks and my wife has one betta tank, or as Al calls it a Betta Palace. There will be more discus tanks as the fish in the two tanks mature and pair off.

Hello everyone, relatively little posting so far so the name may be new to most.
No other types just Discus for me. 16 tanks total for me, 5 with pairs.
Might have a problem also AL!
