Fighting Discus
Hi All,
I'm sharing some pics of my fish. The last two pics were taken while those two fighting.
The smaller one is a fighter and eat while on the run (from the check board). She doesn't take a crap from the blue cobaltCheckboard.jpgCobolt.jpgAll.jpgFighters 1.jpgFighters 2.jpg.

Re: Fighting Discus
Yeah, they are in a 40 G breeder. Both larger ones are more than 5". Maybe I can add another 3 with large daily w/c?

Too few and too small of a tank.

Re: Fighting Discus
It sounds like you have a breeding pair in their ( the two big ones) .. The 3rd one is going to get picked on. I would remove it and let the pair alone. At best in that 40 breeder you can add another discus numbers wise but with a pair its going to make matters. If you really want to keep all 3 together, a bigger tank and more tankmates is the best solution.

Re: Fighting Discus
The checker board is showing no sign of mating (no mating dance). I guess it is a he and behaved very aggressively towards the smaller one. The smaller one is confirmed female which laid eggs a week ago. The smaller one and the blue cobalt both dance around the checker board. But the checker board shows no signs of interest to either of them.
I can't really tell the sex of them. The checker board doesn't seem to be a male to me.
I will keep a look out for a larger tank. But it may take some time. Have you guys seen the rimless tank at Pets Warehouse in Lindenhurst, NY? I only found rimless tanks in that store. One of the show tank (looks like a 5 foot tank with build-in master flow over flow box) is priced at $2600. It's insane!
