Fresh Ginger
Not really a recipe but more an ingredient. This past spring I had some small pieces of ginger left over and decided to plant them. I've grown it before. It makes a really nice house plant .. its cat safe and leaves are also nice for a taste of Ginger in many dishes. These are edible and nutritious. And if I ever run out of ginger... i can dig some up.

Its a great plant to.grow. If my cats dont over indulge it will grow all winter.

What's your care routine look like along with exposure to sun? I've considered growing some of this myself (as well as garlic) since I use both as ingredients often.

Re: Fresh Ginger
Jake its a very easy plant. Its planted in standard potting soil. Just place the rhizome just below the soil. I watered when ever the soil dries out. The summer months it spent in full sun on my deck.. the winter I grow it in a sunny window.
Garlic is a bit more tricky to grow you would be best to plant it outside however.. garlic chives can be pot grown. ITS SUPER EASY...AND PROLIFIC. Plus the flowers are really nice.

Re: Fresh Ginger
I planted garlic chives and prolific isn't the word. This stuff is crazy! I love cooking with it, as well as the smell, but I had to nuke it with roundup. It took over and choked out everything within 30 feet!

Re: Fresh Ginger
Al - thanks for the tips. Yeah my wife and I are planning a small garden next year for some fresh herbs (parsley, cilantro, basil, etc) so figured garlic would be another good one because you can just chuck it in the ground.
Brian - Good to know that I need to keep it in a plant pot. Last thing I want to deal with is a dog who decided it was snack time with a bunch of garlic chives!
