Default Feeding my discus is short time periods?

I ususally work until 3 to 4 pm. So I feed my 7 3inch to 4.5 inch discus 3 to 4 times a day. Usually an hour to an hour and a half apart. Is this as efficient as throughout the day? The reason I dont have an automatic feeder is because I'm afraid of my filter (fx6) will suck up the food. I usually turn off my fx6 and let the sponge filter run in the meantime.

Evenly spread and throughout the day is more efficient. You don't want big gaps between meals .
I always feed mine once before I go to work to avoid big time gap and 3 more times after work till bed time.
You can also easily synchronize your auto feeder with a timer that turns of your fx 6 for a 20 min. during feedings. You can set that a couple of times a day .
I use a dirt cheap auto shut off timer for this process and it have worked for me Just fine :IMG__201707189__082015.jpg

I use wemo timers for lights and my filter and love it. Can set the timers with your phone and also turn things off and on manually. You can set multiple schedules through the day. I set my filter to go off and on a couple times per day to match my autofeeder schedule

I picked up an eheim auto feeder and love it. I fill it with loose (not cubed) freeze dried black worms. It is set to feed my guys little meals 4x per day. I still feed them other foods when I am home. My discus love it. I also have an fx5 and because the fdbw float initially, and because the discus swarm it so fast to gobble everything down, nothing gets sucked up by the filter (I have watched to make sure). I highly recommend the eheim, I could not be happier with it and to be honest my fish seem to be happier with the multiple feedings per day... they eat with A bit more gusto, and their weight is nice and consistent.
