Default My wild imbellis betta fry

    Hi everyone,

I got a wild imbellis betta pair few months ago for a 48g Southeast Asia community tank. I got rid of all the fish in that tank, with the exception of the imbellis pair, to make it into a QT wild discus tank. I then got a 10g tank for the pair with the hope of getting some breeding action. I am happy to report that I was successful. Here is a video of the 18-day fry eating some baby brine shrimp:

The sad news is that the male jumped from a small opening in the tank's cover and I lost him. Imbellis bettas are known to be jumpers and I regret not even taking a picture of him when he got strong colors during spawning.

Anyway, it feels great to get some spawning going besides my wild discus.

Setup looks great, betta breeding is fun.

    Good luck with your spawn.

Thank you. I have not to figure out how to separate them when they mature and the males start fighting...

I separate them into dedicated bottles once the aggression starts or try more plants for hiding spots until certain age.

I have bred tons of bettas in the past and did this way

Since I have an experienced betta breader here, I will take the opportunity to ask more questions The parents spawned in a 72%-28% RO-Tap water mix, which resulted in a ph of 7.4 and a TDS of 91ppm. That is the water the fry is in. My tap water is very alkaline (ph 8.6) and hard. Can I stop using RO and raise the fry in my tap water?

Honestly, its been a while, and its back in South India.

Direct well/ground water and 99-100% success rate all the time. And no clue about the water chemistry during those days.

I would recommend asking this question to John Nicholson, believe he breed bettas too.

Take a look at this Wild-caught-Bettas-in-my-hometown!!! thread.

Thank you. I will read more about raising bettas and will decide later what to do with water parameters. The fry seem to be doing well. Here is a new video. They are one month old now:
