    Default skinny discus getting skinnier

i had a discus, i suspected a parasite. also one gil not moving
so put in to treatment tank and treated iwth avi verm, and prazi.
with in 2 days the gills worke,d looked more active.
    ate food too.

did second dose after 1 week, then after 48 hours put back into main tank.
it chases my hand for food - but eats 1 pellet and goes back behind the wood floating on a 45 degree angle.

very thin, thinner than before not gaining weight. looks like its body is reverting back to its skeleton and just skin.

is there such a thing as too far gone?
should i discard this fish and humanely put it down?
    it may suffer more?

i suspect another fish heading same direction - but that one is not as thin but getting thinner.

    maybe too far gone too.

Need more info..fill out the med questionnaire to get a better diagnostic. I will say if it is gill flukes...they are extremely hard to rid. I have used prazi several times before and unfortunately...usually takes several doses to effectively work. However, it doesn't sound like time is in your favor.

If it were me..I would qt in a PP bath ...good luck..Ray

Eating, but still gets skinny is a sign of cestodes or nematodes. Prazi will treat for cestodes (tapeworms), but Vermisol/Levamisole will treat for nematodes.

I cull these types pretty fast. Even if they're curable, recovery is slow and you'll never end up with a show quality fish. In the meantime, they could endanger the rest of your fish room.

Possible blockage expelling dead worms. Common.
You might try putting effected discus in hospital tank with 2 tablespoons epsom salt per every ten gallons water.
Keep water level only high enough to cover top dorsal fin for 48 hours then fill the tank full for 24 hours.
May have to repeat 2 or 3 times. If head standing improves try feeding live white worms or other safe live food to put on some weight before putting back in main tank.
It doesn't always work but cheap and will make you feel good when it does.

    Ill be honest.
its never pretty and its never pleasant discarding fish.
neons..sure, but when its significant like a discus - i find it hard.
but looking at this fella - seriously, im not optimistic.
really isnt in a good state.
i think i will put it down.

    thanks guys.
i dont want the others endangered, already treated twice.

The face of a child can say it all, especially the mouth part of the face!
