Liz, I will be getting Hillstream loaches for my community tank when I get it set up. I have done a lot of research on the hillstream's and it seeems like they breed pretty easily if you have any rock formations with area's between them so they can hide and lay their eggs.
Al,
Have you decided what you were going to do?
I did Scott. The main resident will be a group of Phoenix rasbora (Boraras merah). Tristans had a group of wild ones so I decided to try them. Will hopefully breed for me. We held off on shipping them this week because of the cold.. should ship monday.
Also got some endlers and keyholes but these wont go in this tank.
I got some dutch blue Rams from Tristan awhile back and was very impressed.

I ended up getting 20 of the phoenix rasbora which In retrospect was too many for the 29 gal.. Im think 3 pairs of endlers and a group of 8 rasbora with the cherry shrimp is a good number. Theres also 10 bristlenose pleco fry I in their to grow out.
The balance of the rasbora will go in with a group keyhole cichlids coming on the same order... these will be in a 40 breeder forwhile....then move to a 55g or 75 gal.

I also set up a 40 gal breeder here for a
Nice we expect lots of pictures. ;)
Everyone arrived safe and alive. Tristan does a very good job packing them up and shipping...
I decided to tank all the Endlers and rasbora together in the 29g at least for QT. The keyholes got the 40 breeder to themselves for now.. theres 8 at around 2 " . I was a little worried that even though they are gentle cichlids the Rasbora might be lunch.
I will post some pics after everyone settles in.
This is my second time buying from Tristan.. very happy both times now.
These Phoenix rasbora are really neat little fish.. the endler strain I got is as well

I have to say the phoenix rasbora are a great fish to keep in a micro tank with endlers and shrimp. They pay zero attention to even the smallest guppies.
The only challenge I have had in this tank was trying to add mystery snail I hatched out from Liz. I have never had an issue with cherry shrimp eating snails of any kind but my cherry shrimp have killed two sets of Mystery snails now I have added... I watched it happen. And these were snails that were almost pea size. I have since tried them in a 10 gal tank and at this size they just dont last with cherry shrimp. Meanwhile I have the mystery snails in with endlers no problem and in with Blacks rams ..no problem. I think I just need to wait until the snails are bigger. I never thought cherry shrimp would bother them. Just plain weird.
