Sump biological filtration media

Hey all! I’m researching what media I should put into my sump (regular sump, not trickle). There are just so many choices and so expensive…I have a 3 chamber sump. In my left chamber, (under the filter pads, I was thinking about bioballs and ceramic in the middle section. What do you all think about bioballs? Good or bad?

Exactly my plan…I was just unsure of the feeling of bioballs. I was going to go with bioballs in the chamber under the filter pads and ceramic media of some kind in the middle. Thanks

I use pumice- seachem matrix and seachem pond
