Really great shots Pat! When you are there taking pictures are there usually alot of people around? I know when I went to various wild life drives in FL. It got crowded often with tourists.

Thank you Al. At Orlando Wetlands you park and walk in and yes, it can get crowded but I try to go during the week when there is the least amount of people. The boardwalk along the rookery wasn't too bad people wise this time.

Re: Rookery At Orlando Wetlands
I am going to the Orlando Wetlands again this afternoon and taking the (mirrorless) 800 prime. I generally shoot a 400 prime with a 2.0 TC and love the combo. It's light (enough) and the extra reach is generally a benefit. I will use the 800 with the TC to hopefully get nice and tight with the spoonie nest :D However the 800 prime is a heavy lens so will most likely switch back to the 400.

Fast enough to keep up with the Z9 Al. I have only used it in the yard. It's a heavy lens Al but perfect to hopefully get in nice and tight with the spoonie babies. With a TC 2.0 I'm at 1600mm which sounds a bit scary. lol

Re: Rookery At Orlando Wetlands
Sounds like a tripod or monopod is needed. My fastest long lens prime is a. 300mm 2.8 sigma in pentax .. being dslr theres no way I can hand hold it more than a min or two. Its a lethal weapon as a club. :) I also have a 500mm f4.5 in pentax thats manual and was released when dinos walked the earth.. its far too heavy and long for handheld. The tripod for it could be used to launch Rockets. It does not see much action as a result.
Good luck and have fun.
Re: Rookery At Orlando Wetlands
Maybe Al. I always replace the lens foot on the lens that I get because I use Arco Swiss for the gimbal head. Not sure if I have placed the foot on that puppy or not and I am considering taking a tripod even though it’s heavy too.
Pat.
Re: Rookery At Orlando Wetlands
Pat depending on the balance of the lens and camera at some point you may want to play around with a graphite monopod. I have had some good results with it with some practice. It gives just enough support to make a difference.
