My 750 gallon plywood tank is FINALLY COMPLETE!!!!
Almost took me a year to build not because it was difficult I was just lazy. Inside tank dimensions 10' x 4' x 30" tank is actually 36" tall but I am only keeping the water 30". I installed a 2' x 8' window, my own homemade inline heater, 8' LED light, and my own custom control box. Doing a test run now hopefully this weekend I will start adding substrate and driftwood. Stock will be 8 freshwater rays and gar for now.

Re: My 750 gallon plywood tank is FINALLY COMPLETE!!!!
That's looks awesome! A fellow hobbyist in Minneapolis built a 4' X 8' X 4' tank (he was trying to save on lumber) and kept altums angels and discus in it. He used garden soil and planted it heavily. It had dozens of corys, hundreds of tetras and all sorts of dwarf cichlids as well.
He had to reinforce the tank, which started to bow out, with screws and steel wire at the top.
Good luck with this and post some videos, Willie

I got sick and tired of buying aquarium heaters and they always seem to quick working at some point plus you pay to much for them to be junk. So why not use a hot water heating element they last for years and are very inexpensive. My entire heater plus copper pipe I might have $20 in this and I am using a 1500 watt element. Winter will be the test but I left myself room to up size the element if 1500 watt isn't enough.

It has been about a month since I moved all the rays in and so far everything has been going great. I continue to watch the tank like a hawk making sure no leaks show up or something fails. Winter will be the real test to see how well my heater holds up and keeps the tank at temp. Since the tank has been filled with water and running I have had several visitors mostly frogs.

How does that pentek filter work for you? How often do you have to replace the cartridge? And is that your only means of mechanical filtration?

So far it seems to be working good I change the filter once every 2 weeks and I am using 200 micron filter. I have a T coming off the pump most of the water is being pushed into the Pentek filter then the overflow I have a bigger filter bag hanging on the end of that line.
