Anyone know what this is???
Received some fish a few times now with blue sand in the bag. I am guessing its either an ammonia absorber or has biological activity for processing ammonia and nitrites. I have received pieces of biofilters before in the bag but this was the first time I received sand. I was wondering if any of you have seen it or know where one can buy it...I am just curious. It seems to work well what ever it is.

Since I am just guessing I'll say zeolite.
I have heard of some shipping with it.

That was my thought too Tom. the color throws me though. I wonder if they used meth blue as well and the zeolite absorbed it,

It almost looks like this stuff, pardon my scientific explanation.

Re: Anyone know what this is???
Chuck it does look very similar... I wonder if theres a generic version that has a smaller grain for commercial applications.
Re: Anyone know what this is???
I was also going to guess zeolite - it's used for ammonia absorption. My assumption would be that there is a supplier that carries a smaller grain than I can find online. Either that, or a little percussive persuasion to get them into smaller pieces for shipping. :D
Re: Anyone know what this is???
They also make kitty litter with zeolite I believe.
