I will be setting up a 150 gallon tank for discus and was wondering if any one had any experience with the marineland tidal pool 2 sump system? Thanks

Nah. Too expensive for me. I've always made them from old tanks. A sump is a sump. Anything that holds water without distorting from the water weight, will work as good as a high dollar one. :)

It looks pretty much like a storage bin with a drip tower. Like Darrell said , use an old fish tank or something cheap and sturdy enough to get the job done.

thanks everyone. I have 2 brand new ones that I bought for another project a few years ago, but never used. I guess I'll give them a go.

I would use them for sure. Sumps make life easier.

Just as a FYI. I was a big believer in sumps and canister filters. I was very skeptical of Sponge filters. But I gave it a try on a 120G, and it works fine. No water problems at all. Simple. Easy. Cheap. You get air bubbles. U don't have to spend time washing media. Just a rinse of the sponge once a week or so. I made the change as I had allot of royal plecos, and they just clogged up my canister filters. Pain to wash. But the sponge is easy. I think unless the tank is say 300G plus, then I would say sump is the for sure way to go.
