Was not sure where to post this but a week ago I bought a new Apisto male for my female and they laid eggs a few days ago. Sadly, the female ate them all. She is proven female since I have sold some of her 1" fry to my LFS.
However today they had a serious knock down locked-jaw "fight" and now her mouth looks all f'ed up. Is this something I should be worried about or will it heal on it's own?

just the basics, clean water with salt if you choose. If it gets infected then QT and use an antibiotic like furan-2

I actually had a female apisto fight with two other apistos, both missing chunks of their mouth, both only lived for a few days afterwards, hopefully she doesn't die. I'd treat with something so it doesn't get infected. Possibly hydrogen peroxide to prevent bacteria in the tank

the plecos will be fine, its pretty tough to kill red cherry shrimp and amanos should be fine with salt (most likely)

In the past week they have spawned once and fought once. No fights since the one yesterday and she is swimming about the tank this afternoon bright yellow in color again and not at all dark like in the "after" pics.
Should I keep them together or will it not work with them now that they had a big tiff?

He is young but he did fert the eggs she laid last week. They were all pink (and apparently tasty since she ate them all :()

Update:
She is doing well and it looks like she is healing up nicely. However, when he comes around she gives him the finger and swims away.Which is sad because she has had several beautiful batches of offspring. However, I do have some other females (her offspring) in another tank that are still too small to put in the tank with my new male but hopefully some day they can mate together. I will let some time pass to see if the apisto mama who was hurt and the new male can learn to get along again, if not I will get her a new man who is not such an a**hole to her. I was just hoping this paring would work out because I feel so bad that my CO2 accident killed her last mate, they got along so well and had lots of kids and I am sure she wants a mate.

Apparently all is forgiven as she is sitting on fertilized eggs again. Fingers crossed that she does not eat them again.
My husband thinks the male apisto picked a fight with her because she ate all the eggs last time! :argue:

What you were seeing is nature. This is how it is suppose to work. In real life animals fight. It is only in the Disney movies that all of the little animals get along. My guess is this pair is going to give you lots, and lots of babies.

Good luck.

:bandana: Every now & again my gang used to host 'Saturday Night at the Fights' but clean water, a little MelaFix & time healed all wounds.

It is just new to me because she had a different male before and they never fought and yet had lots and lots and lots of babies until he died.

I sold her prior batches to my LFS but that was with a different mate. Now that she has a new man she ate the last batch so fingers crossed that eventually she lets them grow out, I'm hoping it will be this batch but who knows! At least they are all pink so he is doing his job.

Where do you live? I will not ship fish.
