Discus do not do good alone... they are fine in pairs when they have paired up themselves. Otherwise its always good to have the most discus you can which should be atleast 4.

I'm new to discus too and was wondering the same. Can a single discus grow to its full size if kept with tetras? Assuming water conditions and diet are good, will growth be stunted if they aren't with their kind? I have heard it's better to keep it alone than with one other unless they are paired already. Thanks! My tank size is only 25g so I can't get too many until I get my larger tank.

I gave my wife a female adult discus for her planted tank , she has rummy nose, cardinals, corys , a male beta and a adult black angel . the female discus has really bloomed in that tank . She is the boss to which I am surprised since the angel fish are so agressive .
