From what I read on FB it was a 15% increase for juvenile discus and 100% increase for adults.

Really not a problem... They'll only charge the increase if you're willing to pay it.

When people stop buying, the price starts dropping.

@Mark;
That would be a question only Hans can truly answer, all other opinions are, well, just that, opinions lol
There's a message from Stendker stating the basics. Hatchery costs have gone up so the fish are as well. I don't know about the electricity prices in Germany, but mine have increased to the point of ridiculousness even though I've invested a ton of money in the highest efficiency everything.

Kenny, Dennis, Chicago, etc could sell a fish to you. Or buy and sell among yourselves. I think that Al Castro? had some interesting F1 wilds for sale.

I believe it may be to do with the import and export charges as well - at least two goldfish importers have closed down stating that they simply couldn't keep up with recently increased costs for import. Slightly different scenario than sending to USA from Germany, however I wonder if this is the case too.
I am thinking of buying from Hans - guess I had better do so pretty soon!!

Since Stendker is a wholesale provider of discus they do not pay shipping costs I think. The buyer would pay these costs.

Why would one not begin breeding them locally, outside of Deutschland?

Sounds to me like there will be a better market for Asian discus in the near future, unless their prices increase too.
