I always adjust the outflow on my Aquaclears when feeding to minimum flow so my Discus get to to eat more and my filter gets to eat less.

Stu, I have not found the adjustment to the flow to have much effect. You can see how the fish swim in the flow to catch the worms. I remove and clean the form from the filter once a week when I clean the sponge filter.

I am surprised that you do not have a pre-filter on the intake tube; I would worry about food getting trapped in my filter.

Thanks Ron, It only has foam in the filter so I clean it when I clean the sponge filter.

Do you like the Aquaclears? as far as HOB filters go. Have a old Aqueon 55/75 for my qt tank works good I guess but always looking for the next best thing if it is worth it.

I do Devon but they are not always self-priming. On my large tank I use sumps.

Ya I have sumps and a Fx6 and sponge filters primarily but a good HOB filter is good to have laying around, looks like there is room for media also.
