Does any one have bad luck with Blue Diamonds and most other blue strains of discus keeping their brilliant blue color in a planted aquarium? All my blue types always lose their color and turn a blu-ish gray color. I have Red Melons, Pigeon Bloods and Elbinos and none of them do this. Only my blues. My water is soft, ph 6.8,kh&gh around 3. Temp at 85F. I don't believe that it's disease or parasite related because none of the other fish are affected. Please help.

Blue fish like that are the easiest to notice fade since they are all one color. Also color changes depending on mood, diet and stressors. What are your water params? I see you have PH and gh but ammonia? Nitrites? Nitrates? 86 is a little on the warm side for normal IMO. That temp won't effect their color however.

My ammonia, nitrates, nitrites are all good. Do you really think 86F is too warm for an amazon planted discus tank? Also, what is IMO?

IMO = in my opinion

Background and substrate color matter also.

Substrate is the largest factor. If its dark, the fish will look dark and dull. Use white sand if possible.
